Lauren Sloan, RYT 200, RPYT, BCD, BCP

Characteristically, Lauren isn't known to her friends and family for always taking the most direct route! Her path to birth work has been a classic example. Years ago, preparing to graduate from the University of North Carolina at Asheville with a fairly new degree at the time--- a BA in Women's Studies--- Lauren distinctly remembers her senior advisor wisely suggesting that she consider translating her degree into community service such as teaching yoga, or birth work. The idea tapped into a deep root of intuition and Lauren now recognizes it as a moment that would foreshadow her direction in the future. Fast forward twenty years, a few detours and reinventions later, and Lauren has made her way to perhaps where she was always meant to be---from her native coastal North Carolina, to teaching yoga in New Orleans since 2011 at her beloved Wild Lotus Yoga, and providing birth and postpartum support to pregnant individuals and their families.

Feeding her soul manifests in offering her passions and gifts to her community through continuously exploring and teaching different forms of movement, meditation, and yoga and marrying these practices with her work as a doula. Lauren's teaching and guidance reflects a certain joy, mindfulness, accessibility, and heartfelt intuition that has long been nurtured by her own experiences as a mom of three and bonus mom to one, and as a lifelong student of yoga.

Currently Lauren teaches the Prenatal yoga classes at Wild Lotus Yoga and offers her services through NOLA Nesting as a birth doula and placenta encapsulator.  Lauren and her family fully embrace the New Orleans magic and mayhem and live right in the middle of it all in the Marigny! Life keeps a pretty fast pace, but she excels in finding and protecting moments of quiet and connection---and loves making time for a few pages out of a good book, a cup of coffee with close friends, or a bike ride along the river…and if you can’t find her any of those places, she’s bound to be in the garden with her hands in the dirt.
